Just because you’re vegan, doesn’t mean that you can’t eat anything you want. There are more vegan options now than ever before, and it’s increasing. You can also make a vegan version if you can’t find one.
Obviously, if you live in bigger cities, you have more options. It’s good to know that you can make things happen though no matter where you are.
The problem a lot of people have is not a lack of vegan options to eat, but their lack mindset and perspective about it.
So, instead of thinking about your eating that you can’t have something because it’s not vegan, think about your choices and the fact that you choose not to eat non-vegan because eating animals and their by-products doesn’t align with your soul, morals, or ethics.
Notice the difference.
Something else that people struggle with is that they continue to restrict themselves when eating vegan is actually the most abundant way to eat. The restriction is usually ingrained over years, but you can leave that mentality.
Here’s what you need to know. You can still eat cookies, ice cream, chips, cake, pizza, pasta, carbs, fries, candy, etc. There are plenty of vegan options, and you have room for them in your eating.
It’s not like all you are eating are these things. You also eat whole plant foods and vegan processed foods. There is a balance, and all of it can fit into your eating.
To help you further, here are small things you can do with your eating that make a big positive impact in your life:
• Make sure to eat enough protein for you throughout the day. 20-30g of protein per meal is great.
• Hydrate throughout the day. Drinking at least 64 oz of water a day will benefit you.
• Fit in your favorite vegan treats because you can.
• A properly balanced vegan meal consists of carbs, protein, fats, and color (fruits and vegetables). Put these together in your eating.
• Track and evaluate your eating to figure out what works best for you, like your portion sizes, macros, food combos, meal and snack timing, etc.
• Plan and prep your meals and snacks to save time and to make sure you’re eating enough.
• Stay adaptable and flexible because everything will not always be perfect. Sometimes, you didn’t eat as much protein as you intended to. Sometimes, you ate later than you normally do. All ok.
• Try different flavors, foods, combos, tastes, recipes, restaurants, etc. to keep eating a variety + to find out what your preferences are.
• Have your go-to foods, recipes, favorites, etc. so that you have tried and true options/combos/meals/snacks you love that work for you.
• Make things easy for yourself. If you don’t like cooking, make meals that are quick. If you know you won’t be home for most of the day, know what you’re going to eat in advance. Doing this will have you feeling better about your food choices, help you to stay consistent eating the best for you, and improve your food confidence.
